Weekly Infographic Candy: Social Media Facts 2013

Social media channels are entering the mainstream media as the largest players now attract between 70M and 1.5 billion users worldwide.  With mass growth come new waves of audience adoption and behavior that will require marketers to be even more nimble as they plan the next generation of their engagement strategies.

This week’s little infographic gem is brought to you by the folks at Digital Insights who combed a variety of sources to pull out some telling shifts in the social demographics of Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest.  A few statistics you may find especially handy:

Facebook – 75% of a post’s potential engagement occurs within the first 5 hours it goes live

Twitter – 55-64 yrs olds are the fastest growing demographic; 79% of which are active

Google+ – 80% of users log in at least once a week; 60% of them log in daily

LinkedIn – 81% of users belong to at least 1 group

Instagram – gets 1,000 comments per second

Pinterest – 80% of total pins are repins

General – 46% of consumers say the integration of social media makes them more likely to share products and services with others
